TNT_ Knights Of The Thunder

I do believe this is the second LP from these guys , and even though I haven't heard the debut , this album sparkles at times and then gets lukewarm at others. After listening to the first song '7 Seas' , one can tell right aways that the main focus is Le Tekro's magnificent axework..along with Hunley's vocals. But I must say in my honest opinion Hunley's vocals can get annoying at times. Yes I love high screams ...but where he has range , he also lacks full body unfortunately. The next track , 'Ready To Leave' , goes from killer double bass ampled by full throttle speed to almost a Journey/Styx style when the chorus begins. The next track is a small accoustic intro called 'Klassik Romance' that goes right into a nicely placed plodder called 'Last Summer's Evil'.This piece has a pop metal style with nice harmonies laced about the chorus , all wrapped up in a hairspray like atmosphere. Next song is 'Lost Without Your Love'...a boring ballad that only gets resucitated briefly when the solo begins. That is one of the biggest problems with this LP... there is too much misguideness to it. From a plodding style,to a speed metal style, and then to AOR schtick. As the next track begins , 'Tor With The Hammer' , the speed metal over the topness begins once again. But unfortunately this one seems to lose it's way in the end. The next two tracks , 'USA' & 'Break The Ice' , are nothing more than foot stomping, crowd pleasers in every sense of the word. As we come up close to the end of this LP , the diamond in the rough is found. 'Deadly Metal' is a full blown go for the throat killer. If there is one fantastically bright spot in this whole album it is from this mayhemic masterpiece. The closer is the title track itself... a half blistering , half baked anthem. To summarize...I would say the main flaw of this LP is the lack of conviction. Sure there are bands out there that can go from one style to another , but they aren't as extreme with their boundaries as TNT tries to do. The production is squeaky clean, and the musical abilities of all the guys are top notch...but it just doesn't seem to come together unfortunately.
