Well, we went through a huge list of names, probably 250 or so and nothing seemed to fit. We actually passed over Archetype at first, but when I kept seeing it, the name seemed to fit us better and better. Eventually it stuck and I’m glad we chose it because it really is a good name for the music we play and from the lyrical point of view. People think that Archetype means a perfect form or the first of it’s kind and might perceive us as arrogant or something like that, but it has several other symbolic and psychological meanings.
2.According to your website, you are preparing a new album already. What will
that be about??
We’re all very anxious to get the new one done. All the music is written and as of now only the drums have been recorded. I’m finishing writing guitar harmonies, leads and lyrics and will go into the studio in the near future to start recording. First of all, the new recording is going to sound much better than “Dawning” because we actually will do this one the right way and with the right equipment from the start! I use my seven-string guitar for six of the new songs and it has really opened up some new doors for me from a composition standpoint. The material is a lot heavier and will retain many of the progressive and power elements that were present on “Dawning”, but it’s going to have a different feel and will be approached differently. There will be a few less clean breaks and intros on the new CD, but we’re very confident that will open a lot of eyes upon its release. Since a lot of the lyrics aren’t complete yet, I can’t tell you what songs will be about, everyone will just have to wait on that.
3.Did you find a second guitarist already? Why did you decide to change the formula?
Everything that I have ever written has been for two guitars, I’ve just recorded all the separate parts. Up to now, we’ve been unable to find a stable, competent player to complete the band. We’ve had a few join, but nothing lasted. I realized that it would be a waste of time and effort to bring someone in right now and teach them all the music for the CD and maybe have them leave sometime thereafter. Once the new CD comes out we’ll look for a permanent guitarist.
4.Are you planning to tour Europe sometimes?
We really hope that with the release of new CD we’ll land a good deal with a label and be able to tour Europe and the US and wherever else we can. The response to “Dawning” has been great and the new CD will be even better so we have many expectations for next year.
5. How do you see the metal of the new millennium??
There will always be different classifications and levels of metal, from underground bands doing cool original music to the pop metal bands playing the most horrible music ever conceived! Basically, I don’t see much change now or down the road. We can only hope for a rise in popularity of power/progressive metal, it’s just so difficult when people are brainwashed from MTV to the radio and never hear real music. There are a lot of good up and coming bands now so I hope real metal can rise to the top and kick those loser pop nu metal bands to the curb.
