1.How is Deathead doing nowadays? did you solve your line-up problems??
Chris: Right now the lineup problems haven't been completely sorted out. I am
taking my time finding the right guys to round out the band this time. In the
past there were guys that just didn't fit in and/or just weren't interested, but
they were brought in because we were trying to rush everything. This time around
I am taking the time to find people that are as dedicated as I am. I am planning
on the band being back by the first of the year. I really want to make sure that
whomever I get this time is going to be the absolute perfect member for this
band.
2.when will your first Deathead Cd be out?
Chris: Well right now, we have a single that is doing the rounds. Unfortunately
it's not that great of a recording and it's only available on cassette. I must
say this isn't a song that I am 100% proud of but what can ya do? It was
recorded kinda quick and it has some major screw ups in it. We put it out
primarily for the people that have been following us for a long time, and they
were notified well in advance that this isn't 100% of what we do.
The first official release will be out after the hunt for the right guys is
complete. The whole reason why nothing has surfaced til now is because I didn't
want to record something and then half the band that was on the cd not be in the
band by the time it was released.
I will say, that our first official release will be sometime next year.
3.is it difficult to play your kind of metal in the USA nowadays?
Chris: It is. There aren't that many bands around now that are playing this type
of music and the ones that are, are so competitive. Myself, I'm not that
competitive with other bands, because I believe we can blow any band away. I
will step out on stage and play with anyone. But back to your question. Yeah, I
think it's hard to play thrash/speed metal in America right now, I mean when you
have all these bands that are popular right now, it does make it hard, and kids
aren't as free thinking today as they were when I was 15/16 years old. Since I
have been back in Texas though, I have noticed a few other local bands around
here that are playing some thrash and to me that is a damn good sign.
4.How do you see the metal in the new millenium?
Chris: I think it's still there, it's just gotten so underground that alot of
people say it's dead. When I was a kid, if there was a band that I wanted to
know about I would search anywhere under the sun to find their shit, but kids
today are lazy. If they can't hear it on the radio or buy it at Sam Goody, it's
not worth it to them.
I know a few guys that play in some bands and they are just pure old school
metal so it helps me keep the faith, knowing that we aren't doing it all alone.
I can see a rise in interest in some of the old stuff too, so I think that metal
will be making a big return. It may not be today or tomorrow but within the next
few years it will happen. There needs to be something happen that makes an
impact like when "Kill 'Em All" came out. Music right now is so generic and lame
that it needs a great big kick in the ass to wake it up.
5. what are your influences and why?
Chris: I have tons of influences, most of them are from the NWOBHM days such as
Angel Witch, Venom, Saxon, Motorhead, old Iron Maiden shit, Mercyful Fate. I
also really dig old punk stuff like The Ramones and Sex Pistols and The Dead
Boys. Of course I'm into the 80's thrash stuff as well. Bands like Overkill,
Anthrax, Testament, Exodus, Megadeth, Heathen and so on. Why are they my
influences? Because they kick ass why else?
6.your name is quite known in the USA underground scene, and for a while
now.Do you have a contract with a label now for Deathead, or will you do an
independent one ?
Chris: Right now we haven't been talking to lables. There was one or two that we
did contact earlier this year, but nothing was working out, so we kinda walked
away. I imagine that our first release will be an indie one. I would like to
hook up with an independant lable for a while just to get our feet wet. I don't
think that there is a major lable out there right now that would know how to
market a band like Deathead. I would rather hook up with someone like Metal
Blade or Megaforce, someone that really has a love for the music that they work
with, instead of just being a name on a roster.
7.a final word.......
Chris: Just that it's great to be sitting here doing this right now. Deathead
has had some serious ups and downs over the past year and it's been hard at
times to stick with it. I want to say thanx to all my fans that have stuck
around and kept the faith. I must really say thanks to you guys for this chance.
I am busting my ass right now to get this band back into working order and I
don't want to let any of our fans down.
Other than that, all I can say is We'll be seeing you all very soon and you can
count on that no matter what anyone tries to say. This band will never be dead
until I say it's dead, and well, I ain't dead yet, and for all of you that want
