Interview with Pasi Humppi of Freternia

1. What does Freternia mean?

Freternia is a fantasyland created by the band. Main part of the songs from our first album are taken from its history. And as you might know the frets are placed on a guitar so the name describes our music as gitarbased.

2.What is A nightmare story about? is it a concept album?

Yes it is a conceptalbum telling a story about this dude always having the same dream. Within theese dreams creatures call for him to enter a portal to the world of Grimbor, where he is destined to save the world from evil. Along this journey he faces fears and doubts. Will he be strong enough to fulfill his destiny and so on.

3.What changed on" A nightmare story" as opposed to your first release-"warchants and fairytales"?

I believe we have a more rawer sound and a better production. We have taken the freternia concept further and are very happy with the result. The musicstyle is still the same but with new elements and improved sound.

4. What motivated you guys to getinto medieval metal?

Well the love of this musicstyle. For me it would be impossible to write music that isn't close to my heart. It is hard work to make albums but it is all worth it!!

5.I see you guys are already preparing a new album. what will it be like?

Well it is to early to say. We have some songs finished and they sound great but as for the whole album it is way to early to say actually.

6. will we see Freternia live in europe this summer?

All theese things depends on selling rates and public demands. Our hopes is that we will be able to play in europe but we have at this point nothing planned.

7.what are your influences?

As a band we have many influences. All the way from kiss to candlemass. My personal influences is mainly the german scene with bands like Gammaray, Blind Guardian and so on. Since i am a singer i guess i have to mention some heroes of mine and they are many but just to mention a few i would say Kiske, Eric Adams and Tony Martin.

8. what do you think about the metal of the new millenium?

I think it is good and here in sweden we can see that metal is on the way up again. Just a couple of years ago we couldn't see any metal videos on swedish tv and now we can. Many new great bands are showing up everywhere and as far as i can see the future looks bright for metal music!

9. a final word...

May the force be with you always!!
