On the 1997, a band from a small city in the north-est of Italy, called Trieste, pubblish their first album, produced by a big german label. The name of this album where “Legendary Tales” and the name of the band were Rhapsody.
Following the incredible success of Rhapsody, another very good italian power metal band called Labyrinth got a very good success for the second album called “Return to Heaven Denied”.
On 1998 the Italian metal was only the power metal played by Rhapsody and Labyrinth, a lot of another italian-power-metal band, like Domine, White Skull, Heimdall, Secret Sphere, Vision Divine, Thy Majesty and much more, tryed to follow the success of Rhapsody and Labyrinth, but the metal world was so tired to listen the usual italian power and the success was little by little so smaller.
Now, 6 years later, the italian scene is the house of ghost like Rhapsody and Labyrinth, to many band have tryed to replace the success of their power metal but the people stopped to like them. There isn’t place where have a good concert, also the most important band play in Italy for only one gig, in the north of Italy, keeping out the fan from the middle and south of Italy. Too expensive travel to Milan to see one concert and come back in the south of Italy the day after.
But the very great problem is the difficoult for an italian underground band to promote his work and to play outside his city: the club where an underground band can play are very small and often is impossible for a band from the south to play in a club in the north of Italy because the club cannot pay all the travel-bill of the band. The reverse probem not exist! In fact in the south of Italy there isn’t club where play metal music!
Only the better band can play around the club of italian underground, and is very important talk about this band: for example we can talk about Enemynside, a very good thrash metal band from Rome. This guy play since 1994, have pubblished a lot of demotapes, and now are recording their first album, produced by a small italian label.
Another very good band is Adimiron, a very good shymphonic black metal band from Brindisi, in the far south of Italy. During the last year they have play so much in a lot of italian club. During the last summer this band have play in a very important festival with Destruction, Vicius Rumors, Stormlord and others... Now they are ready to record the first album and during the next summer they will take part to a lot of important festival around Europe and U.S.A.
We can talk about another very good thrash metal band called Rainspawn, their first album is waiting since one year, but will come during the next spring.
As you can see there are a lot of very good italian metal band, and maybe you’ll never can listen something about them! I hope to show you some of them, and to have the possibiliy to interview some of them and to present some mp3 to download to listen something else from italian heavy metal world!!!
