>1. you have just announced finishing the recording for your double
>CD project- "Deliverance" and "Damnation". Why 2 cds?
M: It felt more interesting and more "unsafe" to do this than to just follow up with another "regular" album. It's an experiment, and it it wasn't for our interest in developing and doing wierd stuff I doubt there would have been a record at all. I hate to be bored with music, and this was different to what we've done before.
>2.You seem to have had some problems with the promoters this summer.
>what happened??
M: Ummm, don't know exactly what you mean, but yes, most promotors are scum!
If you're talking bout the Greek festival then I can only say I'm sad it didn't happen. Those guys want us back there on our own and we will accept once we get a definite offer.
>3.Is Opeth from 2002 different from Opeth of, say, 1998?
M: 1998...hard to say...not much really. I'm still the same anyways. We we're just about to sign with Peaceville. Don't know what to say at all, sorry!
>4.How do you see the metal of the new millenium and Opeth's place in
>it??
M: The scene is shallow. People form bands for the wrong reasons. I can't really think of many metal bands I think have any credibility these days. I love metal for what it used to be, now it just gets on my nerves....as for Opeth, I can probably not pursuade anyone that we're any better, still I know in my heart why I chose to play metal music and why I have a band + why I have turned my back on everything else.
To be honest, Opeth is in my opinion one of very few bands that is real.
>5. You are currently preparing a world tour, you have just returned
>from an Uk tour. How does it feel to tour nowadays? how are the fans responding??
M: Tours are better for us now than they used to be, but I have a love/hate relationship with touring. It's great fun while it is also we're stressful + bad for your health. I like to be at home too you know.
>6.Blackwater park has been rereleased in a special edition, as a
>double CD with 2 new songs. why did that happen?
M: We got the choice to participate in the whole reissue biz of BWP. I wrote and recorded those 2 new songs to be able to offer something else than just artwork differences. I'm proud over those songs...I think they're great!
>7.your unique style has given Opeth a special place in the hearts
>of metal lovers everywhere. How did you achieve this unique blend of
>influences?
M: I can't really say. It has to do with a lust for experimentation as opposed to staying "true" to the genre. That is one big misconception I believe. Look what happened to the so called "true" bands. Either they're not around or they're complete and utter shit! No, big words must come from great brains and hearts to impress me. Hmm, I see I change subject about 10 times with each question...sorry!
>8.In the interview that you gave for BraveWords, you sounded extremely intrigued about the outcome of the recordings.Do you still
>have that feeling??
M: Funny, I just got another interview saying I sounded unsure about them. I don't really know what I think yet. I have to digest the whole recording experience which wasn't good for me at all.
>9.Your side project- Bloodbath- has recently finished the production
>of the band's first full length CD.Did the work for it have any
>influence of the very brutal outome of Deliverance??
M: No, I didn't write a single riff on Bloodbath and I don't intend to either. I'm a screamer foir that band, while for Opeth it's different. My death metal taste leans more to US style than Bloodbaths stockholm influence.
>10.A final word...........
M: Thanks for the interview + scuse me for being confusing!
