The Project hate is one of the best extreme metal bands to come out of Finland nowadays
>
we managed to get a hold of Lord K, and here is the result:
1.So,I see that you are trying out a new female vocalist...have you found what you were looking for?
- We are still in the beginning of this process and itīs too early to tell if this will be the next girlto be a part of the Hate. I hope she pulls it off and answers to my standards coz sheīs a real cool chick with a great and strong voice. Weīll just have to wait and see what comes out of this. As soon as we know more, itīll be posted at our official site at www.theprojecthate.com or www.theprojecthate.net . Keep on checking into that for everything new when it comes to the band.
2.You are in my opinion, one of the most brutal death metal bands to date. Are you planning on keeping on with your style, or should we expect some experimentation , like most of the bands do nowadays?
- Thanx for that though I definitely do not consider us one of the most brutal bands out there. We are more than just brutality. I think we stretch the limits a bit for whatīs "allowed" in deathmetal though Iīd say we are definitely deathmetal-oriented and thatīs pretty much what we are based on, with some weird oriental influences as well as tons of subbasses and groove-ladden beats. As far as experimenting goes, we just do what we see fit and what we wanna hear. Iīm satisfied with the style we have accomplished and we definitely know what we are about. There will be no majorchanges in our sound as this is what we are about. We have created something that pretty much gives us freedom to do what we want without losing what we are about. Including all kinda elements is natural for me when it comes to creating music and a long as I like what we do, I know we are doing good shit.
3. Are you planning on a new album already?what should we expect?
>
- The next album wil be recorded in the summer of 2003. Before that we have the livealbum coming out as well as another album that we originally recorded back in 97 I think. This is the album that made me form TPH and this December Jörgen will do the vocals for it and itīll see the light sometime next year I think. Some of the material on this album later made it onto the first and second album of TPH. Itīs a great album and I think itīd be a fun treat to make people see what TPH originated from. With Jörgen doing the vocals, itīll be sounding as I wanted it the whole time. I killed this band after the rcording as the people involved didnīt have what it takes to fulfill my visions on this album. If you like what we do nowadays, youīll like this one. Itīs a little more straightforward but it definitely holds the trademarks that are TPH.
4.I loved Killing Helsinki, and there are not too many brutal metal bands that dare making a live album...How did that happen?
- The Helsinki gig turned out fabolous in my opinion. We didnīt plan to make the gig a a live-recordning at any point actually. Statik Majik, our webmaster, just wanted to record it onto mini-disc for his own pleasure and now we are happy he was persistant and did it. After the gig when I was at his place, he told me he had listened to it and was blown away.I was curious and told him I wanted to hear it so he played it. Over and over again. It sounded great so I got the idea of releasing it sounded so impressive. Even I didnīt know we played that good to be honest. It makes for a good recording to say the least and itīs a fun thing for people to hear what we sound like live I guess. I donīt care too much, just feels great to help out my brother in the US with a decent release for his first label. Check out www.hornsuprecords.com for more info on the album. Ofcourse the sound is lacking at some times, but itīs all played and recorded at it was, no overdubīs, nothing, thatīs why I like it and feel itīs a good release.
5. who is Lord K outside the music?what influences him and what makes him tick?
- Iīm the same fucker on both sides. Pretty much anything influences me and everything I absorb ends up within something music-related, whether I want it or not I have reckoned. Music is my life and has been for well over 15 years now. Music and my close friends is what makes me tick. There are very few people Iīd die for, Jörgen is one of them.
6.You are usually seen as satanists. Are you satanists or just pagan?
- Letīs just say we have a thing going with Jesus, and it includes bullets, guns and nails as well as some hammers.
7. I heard you had problems with Massacre.what happened?
- Fucken Massacre... Long story. The usual bullshit, fuckn everything up, not getting the record out, not understanding that they had atleast ONE good band on the label in TPH. I got fed up with their non-interest in the band and told them to basically fuck off. Iīm glad e are off them, we recorded 2 brilliant albums for them and they didnīt care. Fuck them, with a knife. Twice.
8. Some people described Project hate as the midline between Entombed and Samael. Would you agree?
- No. I donīt think thereīs anything in what we do that resembles Entombed. Samael was never an influence though Iīve heard the comparison before, I donīt know why really. We are far more heavy and far more butal. If we stripped the groove down and programmed more clinical drums, then the reference might be more appropriate. I donīt think we sound nothing like them bands, though I still like their music. I think the "Entombed" thing is becoz Jörgen plays with me. I donīt fucken care, people always need something for bands to be compared with so they can make up their minds about the band in question. We have gotten compared to Fear Factory countless times which is like comparing Entombed to Avril Lavigne. We have elements from alot of things, Fear Factory doesnīt make the top 10000 list though, except for the fact we both use sub-basses. Oh, we use guitars too, damn, we MUST sound like Fear Factory then...
9.What is the metal scene like in Sweden nowadays?
- Itīs been doing okay the last decade I guess. New bands every fucken day releasing albums, one worse than the other. Iīm glad that the friends of In Flames are getting huge success, I have been following them for so long now and they deserve every fucken bit of what they get. 2 Ton Predatorīs coming album will beat your fucken asses to pieces. And Iīm not saying that becoz Mazza from that band plays with TPH. Thereīs somuch shit coming out itīs scary, but good as well I think, I`m having a hard time following up on everything though. I always have Dark Funeral, thatīs all the music I need.
10. did you find a new label already?
- We are currently going over the contract with a label right now and so far it seems promising, weīll see what happens. They called me up and told me they wanted to sign us, thatīs more interest in 5 minutes than Massacre ever fucken showed us so thatīs a good start. I hope this works out, I rather be a bigger band on a small label than the other way around.
