Spartan warrior

I heard some songs of this unknown 80's band, i liked them, so i bought the album. I don't know whether these guys are from France (singer really sounds like) or America (their names), and all i know is that they've released 2 albums of which this is the second. First one was called Steel'N'Chains. Well on 80's this could been a pretty big name, but i think that "the jaw of time" has bitten this album little too much. It just sounds very old. Guitarwork is sometimes avarage sometimes even ripping, solos are usually great! Singer is okay, sometimes shines sometimes not. He has pretty high pitched french sounding voice with sometimes a little roughness added. Drumwork is more like supporting here, they doesn't sound strong enought to take a big role though are played pretty solid most of the time. Maybe they just aren't mixed so good and adds this very glam'ish feel... or something. Bass is also solid untill it hits the higher notes and makes it sound like someone would be knocking thin glass. So this album has strong and weak points. Assasin is mid-tempo, pretty strong, melodic and pounding rhythmic song and i like it. Second song Black Widow is solid enought to keep the feeling. Third one is kind of a ballad, lyrically but more faster and rocking. Depends of mood if i like this one but its pretty good. Son of A Bitch then sounds little more powerfull and has what it takes for a great song, my favourite here. Singer now adds some needed roughness to his vocals, guitars are mid-fast but very ripping and drums support as needed. Sentenced to Die is faster good song too. Hanging On is though, boring. Opening riff sounds powerfull and makes you think its gonna be a good one but too long mid-tempo song without and melody changes just annoys after a while. Mercenary is a beatiful one again with ripping mid-fast guitarwork and melody rocks. Broken Promises is "the ballad" of this album and just forgettable one. All in all this's enjoyable album, more melody than riff based overall... but in the songs Spartan Warrior uses the riffs more it sounds great. Assasin and Mercenary rocks by melody and Son of A Bitch along with Sentenced to Die by riffs. Black Widow and Im on Heat are solid... Thats about what this album has to offer with classic 80's style. For collectors...!
