Interview with Michael Amott of SPIRITUAL BEGGARS

1.What is On Fire all about? Concept, ideas, recording process...

“On Fire” is our latest attempt at creating ROCK HISTORY, ha-ha…

Concept= To make the earth move with our sound.

Ideas= As many as we could fit in on one album…we just let the creativity flow! Recording Process= Long and interesting! We did the album at a new studio called “Slaughterhouse”, 5 minutes from where I live…we kept this one close to home.

2.This is your first album without Spice. Do you still talk to him?

Nope, we haven’t spoken to him since he left the band. There are no hard feeling from our camp though, we wish him the best of luck! You know, life is too damn short for bitterness and regrets!

3. This has been bugging me for a while now. Why the name "Spiritual Beggars"??

Because it’s a great name for this band! And it made you THINK… That’s a good thing, right?

4.Your style of music is right now, a little "Not what one would expect out of Sweden". How did you get to it?

Well, I don’t know there’s all kind of music coming out of Sweden… You have everything from The ROCK thing with THE HIVES, The HELLACOPTERS and the DEATH/BLACK/POWER metal stuff. A lot of bands… Funnily enough, also most hits from Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears etc. are written and produced here in our country.

But we don’t feel that we are a typical Swedish band or even that we belong to a certain scene… We just do what we do and get on with it. Our music is a UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE. Everybody can relate to a good riff!

5.Your style has been described as very similar to Trouble. How do you feel about that?

Well, we haven’t heard that comparison too much really. A lot of their songs build on harmonies w. 2 guitars… We write songs with more a 1 guitar approach. And we have the keyboards as well. They were great band though, very underrated. “THE SKULL” is my fave from their albums…

6. Are you planning to tour extensively with On Fire? Any chance of seeing you here in eastern Europe?

Quite possibly we’ll be coming your way, we are booking a European and Japan tour in March/April 2003 - we are looking forward to playing live again…it’s been a while! The tour dates will be up on our website www.spiritualbeggars.com when they are confirmed.

7. What bands/musicians/events have influenced you most?

Oh, tons of people have influenced me…too many to mention really! I have a pretty huge collection of music and it goes all over the place musically… I let myself just d

8. How do you see the metal of the new millenium?

It’s cool…more variety than ever I think…but it’s hard to make an impact commercially and creatively nowadays…you need a strong concept!

9. A final word...

Thanks for the interview and keep on keeping on!
