rage- Unity

Rage is back with rage! I think i could say so. Last album was a first with this new lineup Terrana (d), Smolski (g) and Wagner (b,v), and it was should i say, little disappoint ment. It had allright songs, but it lacked something... songs sounded somewhat so... hollow and didnt interest. Ofcourse some good moments were there too. And Ghosts album before that was way too orchestrated. But this is a huge turn to better way. I think it's Rage's best album since Black In Mind, propably. Anyway, guitar virtuoso Victor Smolski's guitarlines new works solidly and guitarsolos are beautiful and energic. Mike is a hell'a drummer as always, Peavey sings good as ever, even better. Somewhat creativity on songs and the feel has pretty much returned and it can be heard. Unity was said to be something like Missing Link album (1993) and it was Rage theirselves that said this. I agree, some strong riffs and trashy moments are back, about time! This time there's a good mix of powermetallic sound, trashy moments and some small orchestrated add-ons. All I Want starts with militaric rhythm and war sounds. It tells about will of freedom. Its a strong power-trash mixing asskicker and perfect opener. Second track Insanity keeps up the spirit, its solid track. Down then is propably my favourite here. Its somewhat more technical, hardriffing and angry with a beautiful running guitarsolo. Dies Irae is only song this album with some orchestrated add-ons. In its chorus orchestra and Peavey together sing "Dies irae, dies irae..." but that's it, its just an wellworking add-on and never steals the show from the band. One of the greatest songs written by Rage for a long time this one too... other strong moments include powerfull and angry Seven Deadly Sins about church and leaders ruling our world to multiply their power, little slower tune Set This World On Fire and World of Pain are great too. Then, that's about it! Title track is overlenghty, being only instrumental its pretty forgettable, Living My Dream is pretty average too... Afterall album feels little short but there is enought great songs to make this and good if not great album. Not a classic but very good album from Rage with a few really killer songs that just points right direction of the band... i can just wait whats coming out next..! A strong chance for this to be my album of the year 2002. Rage's back with rage!!! 8.2/10
