Dr. Chunk was formed by Tighe Werntz, whose creative vocal style gives Dr. Chunk a unique flare, combining influences from new as well as classic metal, Eric Beard, formerly of the Bay-Area thrash band Xanthus, Jeff Simpson, from the San Diego band Massacre Zer0, and Mikey Niel, who currently drums for Dr. Chunk as well as the band Cage.
The members of Dr. Chunk started work with a 3 song demo release which included "Face The Fear", "Traitor's View", and "Feel My Pain". The distribution of the demo in the summer of 2001 sparked so much interest that the members of the band decided to commit themselves to finalize their setlist and produce a professionally mastered full length album. Dr. Chunk went into the studio in August of 2001 and did not emerge again until early 2002, ensuring that each recorded song got the attention to detail that it deserved. Released in May of that year, The self-titled debut was mixed by P.O.D.'s Steve Russell and mastered by Brian "Big Bass" Gardner (of Linkin Park and Blink-182 repute) at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, CA.
Dr. Chunk is currently bringing their music to new listeners, playing live, expressing their uncompromising form of metal heaviness with a surgical precision on the United States west coast.
